CONGRESSMAN GRAY SLAMS HOUSE PASSAGE OF RECKLESS GOP RECONCILIATION BILL
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Adam Gray (D-Merced) released the following statement after the House voted to pass the partisan GOP tax and spending bill.
“My Republican colleagues had every opportunity to work across the aisle and advance thoughtful, commonsense legislation to rein in bureaucracy and federal spending while protecting programs that Americans rely on.
Instead, they opted for a partisan spending bill that will blow up our federal deficit, increase our national debt, raise health care premiums on Valley families and put our rural hospitals at risk of closing.
The stupidity and cruelty doesn’t end there: cuts to food assistance programs embedded in this bill mean that the over 47,000 Valley families who rely on SNAP benefits to put food on the table could go hungry.
This irresponsible legislation harms our most vulnerable neighbors, including seniors, veterans, single parents and children, while bending over backwards to give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy—and adds trillions to our national debt to pay for it.
I couldn’t be more disappointed. For all these reasons, for the Valley, I voted no.”
